Take Action!

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

  2. Show up! We will be posting dates of legislators’ town halls on this blog. Bring our talking points and let them know there is a grassroots movement in this state demanding action.
  3. Speak out! Write, call, and/or visit your legislators. Drop a note to the Governor. Write letters to the editor. Question legislative candidates about their commitment to tax and funding reform. Sign up to testify at a legislative forum, townhall, or other event where you can let your elected leaders know  you want to see changes to Oregon’s tax structure and more funding for Oregon’s kids.

  1. Here is a LTE we just submitted:
We are parents of a PPS 2nd grade student and a rising Kindergartner. We will be joining in the UPSET march this Friday, May 11 because we’re upset and heartbroken. We are horrified at the inadequate funding of public education that continues. Schools have been completely stripped and the inequities between schools that can finance teachers and programs and those that can’t are sickening. Not only are our children suffering (some more than others) with each cut, but the future of our city and our state is being compromised. Our local leaders boldly collaborated with each other to help spare the loss of 110 teachers (as long as city council approves it), but sadly this is another band-aid to the real problem: the need for comprehensive state tax and revenue reform. Will our Governor and legislature step up to address this crisis? Hope to see you at the UPSET march!

    • This is great! When I was married, and we could afford Catholic grade school for our 2 kids, that worked. Private schools are way out of line expensive, elitist, and in academic curriculum ways, not any better than public. we need affordable education advancement and opportunities for all; it’s an imperative that must be funded and participated in by all, who consider themselves part of a community, a society, we are collectively responsible. And many co-workers who are conservative have said, we pay taxes to pay for public education, why should all taxpapers pay for “someone” elses choice to send their kids to private school? it’s their choice, and so if “they” can afford it, do it, but don’t put the burden on the rest of us for your choices.

What do you think?
